Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)

Responsible use of GenAI is recognised. However, inappropriate or unethical use will be treated as academic misconduct.

We are aware of the benefits that the responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools can bring, however, where it is deemed that there has been inappropriate or unethical use of GenAI to generate assignments either wholly or in part, this is classed as Academic Misconduct and will result in Academic Misconduct proceedings being brought.

Within BMGT3221 Ass 03 you can use GenAI* to

1) Suggest a structure for your work. However, using a standard Power point presentation following the assignment requirements will save you time and effort.

2) Edit less than 40% of your group’s presentation to improve your language. If you use GenAI to edit your text, please ensure you read your work carefully before you submit it so that it makes sense. Gen AI frequently uses words that have unclear meanings and/or do not go together in correct sentences.

It is recommended that you use Word Editor to check spelling, grammar etc as they do not overwrite your work or change its meaning as Gen AI does.

IN BMGT3221 GenAI may not be used to,

3) Generate ideas – presenting your views are the key to obtaining a good grade on this assignment. GenAI cannot replace your personal views so must not be used.

4) Create content – no written work, images, graphs, or data can be created artificially, the tutors want to know what you can do. GenAI frequently provides you with misinformation which will result in a failed assignment. Using it will have wasted your time.

5) Create a reference list – you must only use articles and journals to support your work that,

  1. are real**
  2. you have read all the way through
  3. are available via the Library search facility
  4. contain the information you say they do
  5. are cited in the text with a correct reference in the reference list.

These BMGT3221 rules for the use of GenAI must be followed. They are not replaced by the advice provided by the University. This Artificial Intelligence webpage only gives information about Gen AI. It does not tell you how you are allowed to use AI on BMGT3221.

* All reports submitted must include a Gen AI declaration:

  • If you use GenAI to create a structure for your work you must declare it under the title on the first page of your report. The suggested declaration is “I have used GenAI (+ name the platform used) to………. This has changed my work by… (add how Gen AI has changed the report you have submitted)”.
  • If you have not used Gen AI, the suggested declaration is “I have not used Gen AI in the creation of my work, in the editing of my work or to check my spelling, grammar, etc.

** Remember you have been given a reading list which contains credible, peer reviewed academic sources. Using them rather than searching for sources using AI or Google will save you time and effort and you will now they have not been made up.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE WILL BE HOLDING WORK REVIEWS AND YOU MAY BE ASKED TO DEFEND YOUR WORK.

If you’re unsure and want some advice, please contact your module tutor, module leader or personal academic tutor for guidance.
