Summative Assessment Brief
Service innovation/improvement project proposal – use of Makaton, communication Gap with learning disabilities – non verbal
This summative assessment is a 3000-word service innovation/improvement project proposal. The student must explore how a service in Learning disabilities nurse field could be led/managed/improved or changed to improve patient safety and /or outcome. The assignment must be written in the third person.
The student must identify a particular service and have clear reasons for this service needing change/improvement
The first step in any change is to assess the current stat of the service and then set out a project plan to manage the change / improvement. Explore how that project plan will be implemented, and critically, the change / improvement.
The student needs to decide on chosen strategy of change, which is required to be based on theories related to change management, leadership, project management, evidence-based practice, research, current health care policies, clinical guidelines, clinical and/or government reports, findings, and recommendations.
Following the selection of change strategy, the student then needs to develop the project plan against the background of the NHS policies and evidence-based practice.

Critically explore and appraise the leadership (L03) and change management strategies (LO2) that will be used to implement the change. (innovation/improvement). (Lo1,2). Discuss this with the role of nurse leaders in leading, managing and changing practice through innovation to improve service user care in a variety of setting in learning disabilities nursing of practice.
The student is required to critically discuss his/her proposed delivery plan (Session 5) of change improvement/innovation to improve patient safety/outcomes in his/her field of practice (Session 5, LO 1,2, 3). Evaluate the involvement of all stakeholders in developing the plans for delivering change and innovation/improvement that focus on better outcomes for
patients/clients. The student must demonstrate how he/she will apply the stages of his/her chosen change management theory and the characteristics of his/her chosen leadership style in his/her chosen innovation/improvement project.
The student is required to systematically appraise collaborative approaches to
