In preparation for the Academic Writing logs, in the workshops in Week 2 and 3 we will be doing a team conversations activity that will help you gain skills in teamwork and oral communication including:
- Communicating with individuals and groups Preparing and facilitating a conversation
- Listening for key ideas
- Paraphrasing key ideas
- Asking questions
- Working together – collaborating
Resolving conflicts
Evaluating and Assessing Learning
In pairs you are required to facilitate a conversation in your team that:
1) Identifies and communicates an issue for management or an organisation that has emerged from your reading and lectures
2) Provides an example of the issue/s from a reliable source
3) Explains why the issue is significant and/or important
4) Paraphrases and applies concepts and theory/ies to the issue
5) Identifies options for solution that management or an organisation could implement
6) Summarises the ideas from the team conversation
This activity will also help you in writing your Academic Writing Logs in Week 2 and Week 3 (individually). The template will be discussed in the Workshops.
Assessment Purpose
The purpose of this assessment is for students to develop skills in academic written communication by recording ideas analytically, including:
- Identifying issues for business practise
- Identifying describing and referencing relevant theory
- Applying theory to business examples
- Drawing conclusions and reflecting on new insights – identifying options for solution that management or an organisation could implement
