Objectives

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content

This module will cover contemporary issues in mental health and wellbeing across the life-course. You will explore this through the lens of positive psychology applying strengths-based approaches focusing on interventions to support service users’ resilience and recovery.. Case studies will be used to explore a range of key issues including assessment and care planning, risk management, cultural diversity, mental health literacy, mindfulness and how social determinants affect inequalities in mental health and wellbeing.

Further Details Relating to Assessment

Post session activities submitted through Moodle will facilitate ongoing formative assessment opportunities via lecturer or peer feedback, these may include responses to case studies, quizzes, forum posts or blogs and self-assessment. One draft opportunity will be provided for each summative assessment with feedback provided at least one week prior to submission.

Poster presentation

You will produce a poster that aims to critically interprete and use health intelligence data to analyse health and social care issues (a named mental health condition) to inform developments in evidence-based practices. Students will need to consider the target audience for this poster could be mental health professionals and wider audiences , in preparing their presentation.

Case study

You will pick one case study and critically appraise contemporary health and social care policy and legislation to respond to the complexity of working with differing disciplinary groups, service users and organisations in the sector- in this case, you should focus on the case of the individual. Then critically examine concepts and theories of mental health and illness across the life course, appraising causal factors and the impact of social determinants and inequalities faced by individuals experiencing mental health problems.
