GUIDELINES:

The Learner is required to submit an assignment to include evidence that will demonstrate understanding of legislation and sources of information by:

1. Describing a minimum of 2 legislative acts pertaining to health and social care services in Ireland (7 marks)
2. The purpose and composition of the Healthcare Record (7 marks)
3. Outlining a minimum of 2 other sources of information available to the medical secretary / receptionist (6 marks)

1 – Describing a minimum of 2 legislative acts pertaining to health and social care services in Ireland (7 marks)

• Provide a list of eight legislative acts pertaining to health and social care services in Ireland (1 mark)
• Describe and explore three legislative acts which pertain to health and social care services in Ireland (2 marks for each act described) (6 marks)

2 – The purpose and composition of the Healthcare Record (7 marks)

• Outline the purpose of the healthcare record (2 marks)
• Explore the contents of the Medical Healthcare Record and provide an example of documents in each section (2.5 marks)
• Describe the contents of the National Maternity Healthcare Record and provide outline the documents filed in each section (2.5 marks)

3 – Describe the sources of information available to the medical secretary / receptionist (6 marks)

• Outline six resources and sources of information available to the medical receptionist (2 marks)
• Provide a brief overview of two of those sources on information – write a blurb describing the contents of the book/file/leaflet (2 marks x 2 = 4)
