Assignment Task
Scenario:
In today’s rapidly changing global business landscape, it is essential to possess the ability to strategically navigate and take advantage of opportunities for expanding into new markets. Your task is to draft a 3000-word Organisational Expansion Plan in a report format that involves practical application and critical evaluation of various strategic analytical frameworks. The focus is on utilising these tools in a practical context to formulate a comprehensive strategy for organisational expansion. The emphasis should be on demonstrating your understanding and innovative application of these frameworks, rather than just providing theoretical explanations. Note: 1. Apprenticeship students must use their employer organisation. 2. Business Simulation software is not used.
Assignment Instructions:
To ensure a structured and effective approach for this assignment, it is recommended that you follow these instructions:
1. Selection of Organization and Market (5 Marks): Initiate this step by identifying an organisation and a corresponding new market for expansion. This decision will be the foundation of your strategic planning process.
If you are an apprenticeship student, this organisation must be your employer.
2. Strategic Analysis (20 Marks): Use recommended frameworks, such as Porter’s Five Forces, to dissect the macro-environmental and competitive forces at play in your selected market.
While these models provide a robust analytical foundation, you are encouraged to integrate additional frameworks that enrich your strategic analysis and depth of insight.
3. Strategy Formulation (20 Marks): Apply Porter’s Generic Strategies to craft a competitive advantage within the new market, ensuring your strategic proposal is finely tuned to capitalise on identified opportunities and mitigate emergent threats.
While these strategies furnish a critical starting point, you are urged to enhance your strategic blueprint with other models and theories that resonate with your organisation’s specific situation and ambitions.
4. Performance Measurement (20 Marks): Develop a Balanced Scorecard framework to pinpoint key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics essential for gauging the success of your expansion efforts. This step is vital for establishing performance benchmarks and facilitating adaptive strategy management.
Should alternative performance measurement methodologies offer superior strategic congruence or clarity, their adoption is recommended.
5. Critical Evaluation (25 Marks): It is essential to conduct a comprehensive and critical evaluation of the frameworks chosen for your strategic expansion plan.
This evaluation requires a comprehensive understanding of how each strategic tool can be tailored and practically applied to your specific context, going beyond basic theoretical definitions.
6. Overall Presentation (10 Marks): This relates to the manner in which your work is presented, including effective use of headings/subheadings, tables, diagrams and other exhibits and also to adherence to citation/referencing standards.
Remember, the focus is on utilising these tools in a practical context to formulate a comprehensive strategy for organisational expansion. The emphasis should be on demonstrating your understanding and innovative application of these frameworks, rather than just providing theoretical explanations.
