Martin Luther and John Calvin believe in a similar way regarding faith in God and justification. This led to soul salvation and how faith in God works in soul salvation.

Luther writings

The first remarkable piece of writing of Luther was Sermon that is related to Good work, God’s faith, soul for salvation faith, and he believed that to forgive for sins could not be done based on good works.

As an instance, Luther decides to be compassionate enough by the way of fasting and retaining from sleep but all such situations are mere illusions and nothing happened.

Therefore he starts reading and interpreting the holy book Bible and learn and explores it to gain knowledge, guidance from it. He also suggests that it is not possible to procure whatever the old testament says and it is only faith that is the best way to salvation.

Indeed, a good man do a good world rather to believe that good work makes a good man and a bad man do bad work and not vice -versa.

The philosopher believes not only in good work or good man do good work but also believes in sinful acts that a person do even when it do good.

Moreover, this concept is also believed and suggested by Calvin that faith exists and man has a tendency to pollute or contaminate every good work by its impure acts.

Good work and salvation

  • The most genuine thing is that humans contaminate everything with some stain and God considers everything whether it’s righteousness in them or human dishonour or bad work.
  • He reaffirms that man is polluted and could do some good work but nothing is important and play a crucial role in getting salvation. But such salvation can be earned with the help of faith in Jesus and the only way for the redemption of soon.
  • As far as good work and salvation are concerned both philosophers have the same views and opinions. Calvin and Luther’s theory was for the belief that the ways of life of Christians should be according to the scripture and it is not the church that reiterates what is right or what is wrong.
  • It should have a christ-centred theology and interpretation of such scriptures should be done on a simple note and not find any other meaning from that.
  • Both the philosophers believe that it is the scripture that draws everything and not church also draws its authority from the scriptures. Both belief similarly as to the justification to God by faith and no amount of good work can earn salvation.

Difference in opinions

  • There are two types of people that are elect and non-elect that refers to chose from salvation by God or not. The core aspect in Calvin’s theory is about the idea of predestination and he believed that everything is decided and humans just act accordingly. But Luther has different opinions and believes that church and state should be separated from each other as the state possess all the power in their hands and Calvin believes that both are interconnected to each other.
  • The theory and opinion of Calvin operated in American history and he contributes in many fields such as avionics, politics, physical sciences, psychology, etc. The supporters of Calvin are Max weber, Talcott, Tawney, etc. However, both philosophers have identical as well as differences of views.

In concluding, both the philosophers have different views on some aspect and similar opinions on other.
